Magdalene Beloved and Sovereign
© Sue Ellen Parkinson
Original - SOLD
13” x 19” Prints • $65
Description:
I began painting Magdalene about 5 years ago. This was the first painting. The “red egg,” is one of her identifying symbols. There is a legend that says, she was summoned to the table of the Emperor Tiberius to tell him about the Resurrection. After she finished, he said, “I would no more believe that story, than believe that the egg in your hand would turn red.” According to legend, the egg turned red. So she is often shown holding either a red, or white egg. My exploration of Magdalene, through painting her, has opened me to her extraordinary energy. It has changed my life.
