”Brigid and the Cailleach," depicts one of the many Celtic legends about Brigid, who often appears in various forms. It is told that every year, the ancient Grandmother Winter, the “Cailleach,” ascends the hill, on the island of Iona. As she goes, she pounds her walking stick up the path, to the Well of Life. The pounding of her great stick creates the thunder and rain of the Winter season. Once there, at the top, she drinks from the Well of Life. Then the beloved Cailleach transforms back into youthful Brigid again. Brigid then rebirths Spring into being, awakening the blessings and possibilities of a new cycle of Life. I wanted to show both aspects of life—young and old—honoring each other with love and deep respect.
