Medusa—Protectress
Original acrylic painting on composite board.
“Medusa–Protectress,” is another attempt to correct negative imagery associated with women. Medusa’s story is another story of dismemberment. She was raped and then beheaded. (The rapist wasn't beheaded, Medusa was.) However, she is usually depicted as the angry, and violent one. I have re-imagined her as an Earth Protector. Her snakes are her beautiful antenna of awareness. She's got owls of wisdom at her side, shining moon and stars over her head.
