Description:

Saint Cecilia is the Patron Saint of Musicians. Whenever I read anything about her she is hailed for maintaining her virginity. My personal feeling is her music was what made her transcendent—because within music, we are free. No matter what our situation, music lifts our hearts. Music can jump prison walls. I think that Steven Schick, modern day composer, and percussionist, really embodies the spirit of Cecilia. He set up an orchestra on one side of “Trumps Wall,” and am orchestra in Mexico set up on the other side—without seeing each other, they played a concert in unison. They demonstrated that music (and the human spirit) can’t be contained.
