Queen Śrīmala wrote, "The Sutra of Queen Srimala's Lion's Roar," which was one of the main, and earliest written texts teaching the Buddha Dharma. Her text became the primary scripture used in India to teach the universal potential of Buddhahood. Like so many women who have made profoundly important contributions to our world, I had never heard of Srimala. A old friend, Gregory Wonderwheel, has been translating Srimala’s texts for many years.

It was a joy to do this little painting of, Queen Srimala. When I did a meditation with this image, as I always do when painting, I received a message saying that she had taken a vow of silence to avoid persecution—hence had written the teachings of the Buddha. I have no idea if this message was my own imagination, or the truth. If there are any Buddhist scholars out there who have information, please share. Many Blessings to all of you. May she help us find and create Peace in our world.
