Description:
This is one of my first Black Madonna's. As I was painting Her, I was listening to the Cantigas de Santa Maria, attributed to the Spanish King, Alfonso X, known as El Sabio—The Wise. I can see his music in this painting. He was a great equalitarian monarch, who absolutely adored the Black Madonna. She had cured him of a near fatal disease and so he asked his court musicians to compose music in Her honor.
