I painted this image of Mary Magdalene during the first weeks of the Covid-19 outbreak. Magdalene is my go-to subject whenever I feel I’m in free fall. In this painting she seems very dreamlike, like an apparition. Her hand gesture, which looks like todays peace sign, is actually an ancient signal that indicates that she is a teacher. She’s wearing red, the color of spiritual authority. The honeycomb and bee appear because Magdalene’s energy manifests sweet sustenance in the world.
